TWENTY-FOUR
Zyhov
When their wits came back to them, all gathered at the edge of the island and looked over the side to see if they could spot the creature and Michael. They saw the two, but they now appeared to be about the size of a penny as the creature continued to descend.
Zâzlzck looked at Nuke. âWhat do we do?â
âIââ Nukeâs thought was interrupted as he saw two other creaturesâthese looked like peopleâdescend to the middle of their island. Nuke had no idea how these two were able to flyâor seemed to fly. With their clothes so sheer, Nuke saw, as they landed, what looked like a flap of skin . . . fabric . . . something . . . that went from their elbow to armpit and extended to their side, and also from one thigh to another, although this was hardly noticeable once they landed. One of them appeared to be the same woman they had seen earlier. The other figure was evidently male. He looked similar to the woman but was more muscular and had a different number of raised pipe-like structures on his body than she did. His clothing, however, looked like that worn by the woman. While secured to their wrists and ankles, there appeared to be long slits in the sheer fabric allowing their arms and legs to become exposed as the breeze blew through the fabric. Evidently, exposing their limbs with the pipe structures was important, or at least the norm.
The two of them approached; the male spoke first. âGreetings, fellow clansmen. My name is Kubim, and this is my wife, Seraphia.â He approached Nuke and extended his hand.
Nuke was in no mood to greet someone who had let a creature take off with his best friend in its beak. He remained stoic.
Kubim smiled. âYouâre worried about your friend?â
Nuke nodded.
Kubim chuckled. âOh, do not worry. If he is with Zyhov, then you have no fear.â
Nuke furrowed his brow. âZyhov? Thatâs the name of the creature who took off with him?â
Kubim nodded.
âWhy?â
Seraphia brushed her long hair over her shoulder and onto her back as she gave a broad smile. âBecause Erabonâs prophecy has just been fulfilled.â She glanced at Kubim. âAnd in our lifetime.â Kubim smiled and nodded. She turned back to them. âPraise be Erabon.â
All of them, in respect, repeated the phrase. âPraise be Erabon.â
Nuke shook his head. âBut I donât understand. What prophecy?â
Seraphiaâs eyes widened. âOh, you do not know the prophecy Erabon left our people?â
Each shook their head. Tiâsulh stepped forward and stood next to Nuke. âEach planet had a specific prophecy Erabon left to our people. Nuke, here, has fulfilled them all.â All the others nodded in agreement. She gestured toward Seraphia. âYour prophecy doesnât include the prophet of Erabon?â
âOh yes, of course,â she said. She looked from Tiâsulh to Nuke. Her hand went to her chest. âPlease donât think I meant any disrespect to the prophet of Erabon.â
Nuke held up his hand. âNo, thatâs OK. But what about Michael? How is he tied to your prophecy?â
She looked at Kubim and then back to Nuke.
